Maintenance Release: Job Board 1.5.0b for Joomla!

Last week’s release of Job Board 1.5.0 saw and influx of praise and encouragement from the Joomla! community.

I was also alerted to a couple of installation related and menu configuration issues, thanks to a couple of folks with a very sharp eye.

I want to thank you all for the kind words and encouragement.

At the time of writing there have been over 600 downloads for the component and over 1300 JED (Joomla Extensions Directory) visits since last Thursday.

Today an updated version of Job Board was released to address issues with the initial release.

Follow this link for the changelog and download.

As i don’t get an answer on the forum i try this way.

If you see the job listed, only on mouse over the text is readable, how can i change this and other colors. Some things i changed with css editing, but the mouse over is a problem.

    Thanks,

    Joep

When can we expect to have the new version that supports Resouces having there own profile to update and upload there resume? Couple great ideals for next release…

    1. Mass Email Job applicant from backend
    2. Sign in access to there profile/ Able to upload new profile and submit to open jobs
    3. Job Agent to help keep resources informed of new posting related to there skill sets.
    4. Connect API with Google, and Indeed etc…

What would it take to get something like this done ASAP?

    Hello,

I love your Job Board extension for Joomla. It is almost perfect for what I need. The only think missing for me is that I can allow my registered users to create job posts. Is there any way that I can achieve this. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  • http://www.tandolin.co.za Figo

@Carlos, please do me a favour and post this on the forum (http://demo.tandolin.co.za).

I’d like to have it in a central place where it’s possible to see if others have experienced the problem and whether they found the cause, etc.

  • Tibursso

    Hi Figo. Thanks.
Just one more question. The database is entered by the administrator or is taken from rss, xml or another protocol?
    Sorry my english.

    • http://www.tandolin.co.za Figo

By Admin. I’ll be adding an XML to JSON and native JSON API soon

    Hi Figo,

    Thanks for the answer.

    Just other question.

I’ve downloaded de last version (1.6.1) and i try to install it but there are missing XML files.

    Any help?

  • Tibursso

Is there the plugin for wordpress?

    • http://www.tandolin.co.za Figo

      Hi Tibursso,

At the moment no wordpress plugin is available. But I’m thinking about it :)

    Hi,

I’ve downloaded the Jobboard extension, int works nice but in IE8 the “Submit CV/Resume” buttom doesn’t work.

Could some one give me some help!

    Cumps,

    Carlos

    • http://www.tandolin.co.za Figo

      Hi Carlos,

Thank you for the compliments. It’s indeed a problem in IE8 and I’m releasing a fix for it today.

It (and a couple of other fixes/features) will only be available in the unmarked/unbranded version for a considerable amount of time. This is to give project contributors and paying customers a bit more value for their input.

Since I stubbornly refuse to run ads on my sites, this is the only way to ensure I don’t starve to death.

      Hope you understand

Folks, please note that the current release is 1.5.1 (joomla 1.5) and 1.6.1 (joomla 1.6). The best way to check for the latest release is to visit the joomla extensions page (http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/ads-a-affiliates/jobs-a-recruitment/14118) and the forum on the demo site (http://demo.tandolin.co.za)

@Ian, the “apply now” button is actually a “

@Jay this has been fixed in the current release. You can also choose to disable applications to job posts. Regarding the “readmore” link error, this was a problem with the router and it has been resolved.

@Randy thank you. Your request has been included in the latest release. Please see the answer to @Jay above
@Kurt thanks your request has been included since version 1.5.0e

@Sherif this feature has been included since ver 1.5.0d
@Veloxagency I believe I contacted you regarding the language files?

@Makia Please see all of the above :)

  • makia

    Hi,

is this component ever going to be upgraded and supported?

    Thanks.

  • http://www.veloxagency.com veloxagency

    Dear friends

    Thanks for this great component.

I just translate them to Brazilian portuguese and wish to know how is possible to share with other members in this site !

    Thanks

  • Jay

I tried your demo site in IE7. The “Add CV/Resume” button is not working. This same thing is happening on my site.

I have joomla core SEF enabled. It workes in Firefox.

Also, when applying to job, I am getting errors and no CV’s will upload. I am getting a 500 – Error Unknown controller…
    components/com_jobboard/controllers/1.php

Can you shed some light on this?

    Great looking component otherwise. Thanks.

  • http://www.pass-interim.be Kurt

Another nice feature would be to be able to copy existing job-postings.

    Greetz,
    Kurt

  • http://www.pass-interim.be Kurt

I agree with Sherif ! This would be great to have the attachment together with the email so that we don’t need to go to the backend to download the attachment.

I would also like to mention that it would ne nice if there where more fields to filled in (as well hidden fileds as fileds that are displayed on the front-end).
E.g. required languages (visible) – client (hidden) – Our offer (visible) – etc…

And finally, when receiving the email from an applicant, it would be interesting to see the client in the mail.
E.g. we have multiple clients looking for Sales Executives.
We put them online and we get an email that Mr. x send his application for Sales Executive but we need to go back to the back-end to see for which job at which client he sollicited :(

Keep up the great work and please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you ;)

    Kind regards,
    Kurt

  • sherif

i have to say this component is so wonderful thanks to you Figo but i have one suggestion to you to be include in Job Board Component, what if you can make a choice on component that to be included the attachment files not just into back-end of joomla to i can see it but it can too included to be sent with the massage that written by vistor in the email i provided on component , for example when i open the massage that was sent to me from job board from my webmail or from my gmail in this situation i can see the massage with attachment files not just a notification and i must go to my back-end to see the attachment files, it will be useful if you can see the whole massage with attachment files in your gmail not just from joomla backend

i hope you got my idea ;)
at last thanks again for your useful component it’s so awesome figo

    • http://www.tandolin.co.za Figo

      Hi Sherif.

Great idea indeed. I’ll take a closer look at such a feature.

  • http://www.pass-interim.be Kurt

    Hi,
It would be handy to see which version is installed when opening the Settings :)
I have translated the language-file in Dutch.
Where can I send it to ?

    Kind regards,
    Kurt

    • http://www.tandolin.co.za Figo

      Hi Kurt,

That’s a great idea. Will definitely do.

I will email you regarding the language files.

      Thanks again

I like to say that the component is very hot and you have done a wonderful job. I’ve updated my Joomla to the 1.5.22 vers and I have not had any issues.

My question is even though I inactived the job req it still is viewable should any of my resouces have the url and I don’t want that to be possible just so that don’t apply to a job that closed. How do I permanently remove the job post?

    using free version

also maybe on the next release you can also have a email that states that the position is closed. only other option is to say its on hold or they were rejected the others are positive informs about the job status. I suppose I could myself but I’m not pure coder just cut and paste with small alters type of guy :)

  • http://www.tandolin.co.za Figo

    Hi Jay,

Unfortunately right now I’m not able to assist with customisations to the extension.

You may be able to get help from other users of the component by posting your query on the forum (http://demo.tandolin.co.za/tandolin-forum)

There is a known issue with your second query and it is due to a conflict in the routing script. This will be fixed in the next release (see details at http://demo.tandolin.co.za/tandolin-forum/2-job-board-component/124–apostrophe-appears-on-top-of-apply-for-this-page.html)

  • Jay

I should also point out that If I go into a job posting to read more and click on any of the return to list links.. including the show all job link i get an error page. components/com_jobboard/controllers/1.php something to do with that….

  • Jay

How would I turn off the application portion. I just want the end user to contact me directly after having read the job posting. Is there a way to do this?

  • http://www.supplychainprofessionals.com.au/ Ian

Componet is looking good (just what I was looking for)

Above site under development but I’ve noticed in IE8 the Submit CV/Resume button doesn’t work.
    Works in Firefox.

Could be an issue with the Artisteer template as it works with other template.
If you hover over the button you’ll see it is underline (as a hyperlink) which is none standard button behaviour.

  • http://hashisown.info/cdg/index.php?option=com_jobboard&view=apply&Itemid=58 Tony

    Hi Figo,

I’m having problems making your component work on my site. When I click on the “posting link” it only shows the application portion, not the jobs that I’ve posted. Its not until you apply for a job that you can see the actual jobs that are available.

Help! What can I do to fix this?

Otherwise, I love the look and feel and the intuitive way you’ve designed this code!

    Tony

After a closer look, it shows a “comma (,)” where the job postings should be.

    • http://www.tandolin.co.za Figo

      Hi Tony

Sorry for the late reply and thank you for the compliments. Things have been a bit hectic.

I followed the link to your website and got a 404 error. Nevertheless, I noticed that your link to the “apply” view doesn’t contain a job id. The job, apply, feedback and share menu options all require prior variables to work properly and therefore should not be used as menu links. Sorry for the confusion but they should not have been available as menu options in the first place.

I’ll remove them in the next release. In the meantime please use only the list, query, and unsolicited menu options.
